Rewilding (Spring & Autumn)

Installation at Aberdeen Station, Richmond BC for Capture Photography Festival 2026

Rewilding (Autumn & Spring) considers the displacement and movement of the once-ubiquitous lion finials that guard the gates of Vancouver Special homes. As the residential architectural style of the Vancouver Special is replaced by condominiums and luxury houses, I have endeavored to imagine new habitats for its discarded guardians. Over time I have salvaged the concrete finials from demolition sites throughout my childhood neighbourhood of East Vancouver. Each season, I paint and place the sculptures in overgrown locations throughout my community. Mimicking their original positions at the gates of former homes, the salvaged guardians stand guard at the entrance to the Aberdeen Station.

The installation is made possible through the Richmond Art Gallery in conjunction with the Capture Photo Festival.
