Cut Your timbers on a new moon (Cranky)
2024 HOLD FAST Festival, St. John’s NL
Cranky reimagines an old wooden punt found along Newfoundland’s east coast. Working with the community of Eastport NL, the boat’s decaying timbers were inked and pressed onto colourful textiles. The mono-prints were installed alongside the salvaged vessel and sound recordings of boatbuilding at the Wooden Boat Museum of NL. The resulting installation was presented at the First Light Centre, formerly the St. John’s Cochrane St. Church, with a responsive performance by the New Aeolian String Quartet.
The project was supported by residencies with The Rooms and Terra Nova National Park in 2022 and Eastern Edge Artist Run Centre in 2024, as well as funding from the Canada Council for the Arts.
